LES GRANDS JOURS DE BOURGOGNE

Michael Mayfield • 6/3/14        Print This Post Print This PostComment Bookmark and Share

The Grands Jours de Bourgogne is an international trade fair that takes place in the heart of the Burgundy. Created in 1992 by the Bourgogne Wine Board, the Grands Jours de Bourgogne takes place every two years in March. It brings trade representatives and journalists from across the globe together, to explore the wines of Burgundy.

programmeCarte

One spends a week travelling around Burgundy to attend up to 15 wine tasting shows held in prestigious locations. One day is devoted to each of the five wine-growing areas Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise, and Maconnaise.

The aim of the Grands Jours de Bourgogne is to increase knowledge about and raise the profile of Burgundy wines (to read more about the Grands Jours de Bourgogne click here)

I participated in ten tasting sessions tasting 359 wines or approximately 1/3 of the wines presented during the five-day period. My tasting notes are listed below in order of tasting with a summary of the top rated wines at the end. All in all it was a very good experience and there were significant differences in the wines from top to bottom. Explaining once again why selectivity is so important in selecting Burgundy.

WOW,I really would have loved being there, what a treat. Interesting that the really Big Dawgs didn’t participate. It’s very embarrassing to have your $500 – $1,000 a bottle flagship wine overshadowed by a plebeian. Om the plus side you tasted the wines that I can actually afford to buy, on occasion.
