Owner Josh Jensen, an Oxford graduate, became interested in wine at an early age. And after graduation his interest led him to Burgundy where in 1970 and 1971 he apprenticed at Domaine Romanee Conti and Domaine Dujac. Domaine Romanee Conti is the greatest Domaine in Burgundy and has a history dating back hundreds of years. Domaine Dujac was founded in 1968 and produced fabulous wines in 1969 just before Josh arrived.

THE OLD BURGUNDIANS

A few years ago, my friends and contributing editors, Edward Lazarus and John Brincko, and I, along with John’s wife, Debbie, and my wife, Laurie, decided to form a group dedicated to drinking old Burgundies from our cellars. We named the group The Old Burgundians, not because of our ages, but because of the old Burgundies that would be our focus.

Thoughts On Provenance

Reading John Tilson’s notes on the Old Burgundians’ tastings makes one appreciate provenance. I think that when it comes to appreciating Burgundy, New Yorkers and much of the Eastern wine drinking public came late to the party when it came to appreciating wines from the Cote. New York, like Paris, has always been a Bordeaux town.
