From my earliest wine drinking days I have always loved Zinfandel. Not all Zinfandels mind you, but those that are balanced and well-made from fruit grown in old and well- situated vineyards. Early on, the great Ridge Zinfandels (Geyserville, Jimsomare, Picchetti, Lytton Springs, etc.) and Joe Swan were particular favorites. And, it was not always the case that everyone loved Zinfandel and still may be the case today.

Click here to read entire article »A few years ago I was in Napa and stopped by the Dean & DeLuca store. In perusing through the myriad of wine racks, I was taken by the Cabernet Sauvignon section. It was huge! I was struck by not only how many bottles were priced at $100 or up, but how many I had never heard of. In the latter category, I counted 20 or 30 and gave up. As I left the store, I could not help thinking “This has gone too far. How many people are there to support the market?” It looked like a market top.

Woodbridge, a former Canadian investment banker, retired in 1999 at 35, moved to Napa and became a farmer. From the start, his Hundred Acre, single vineyard Napa Cabernets, have been a great success, retailing for $200-300.
