MORE TERRIFIC 2010 BEAUJOLAIS, ANOTHER 2009 CHINON, AND A 2007 SAINT JOSEPH PLUS A COUPLE OF INEXPENSIVE RED WINES AND A 2009 SANCERRE FROM ONE OF THE GREATEST PRODUCERS

2010 Beaujolais   I did my first review of 2010 Beaujolais a short time ago. (To read that article click here). Below is my introduction from that first review: The 2010 Beaujolais seem to compare with the 2009s in much the same way as the 2010 Red Burgundies compare with the 2009s. In both instances […]

NEW WINES TO CONSIDER AS WE RAPIDLY APPROACH THE END OF THE YEAR

I am always looking for new and different wines. These range from obscure “Under the Radar” wines to the latest Burgundy vintage and other wines tasted from barrel. Around the year end holidays is always a time to relax and enjoy life. That includes time with family and friends and food and wine.  So as […]

As I promised in my Thanksgiving article (to read that article which includes recipes click here), here are notes on the wines we enjoyed with our Thanksgiving meal and other wines that we enjoyed with […]

CHANGING OF THE SEASONS – HERE ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS TO FALL INTO

Summer is over and fall is here. For me, this is the nicest time of the year where I live. It is a time when the weather is mild and clear. It is a nice time to be inside or outside. And, across the country Fall is usually a more temperate season. So Fall is the time that calls for a wide variety of wine and food. Lighter foods, heartier foods, grilled food, pastas, etc. And Champagne, white wine and red wine all compete depending on the food being served.

MORE 2010 FRENCH ROSÉS WITH FOOD PAIRINGS

New Rosés continue to arrive. Contrary to the belief of some, summer is not the only time of the season to enjoy Rosé. It can be enjoyed any time the weather is warm and I especially like to have Rosé (along with Beaujolais) at Thanksgiving.

FLASH! BIG NUMBERS WINE CRITIC ISSUES REPORT ON 2009 BEAUJOLAIS

Last week it seems one of the “big” numbers wine critics sent out a notice entitled “The 2009 Beaujolais Hysteria: Is it Justified?” Forget the fact that most 2009 Beaujolais has been on the market since last summer/fall (see our reports beginning last summer). Forget the fact that the question posed is never answered. And most of all, forget some of the absurd comments. How about “freakishly large-scaled” or “fruit bombs?” Hah! This is a joke!

More 2009s And A Few Others

For many months I have been writing about the superb 2009 Beaujolais. Virtually everything has now arrived (still waiting for the Clos du Fief Prestige Cuvee which should be great) and these latest arrivals include some of the best wines of the vintage. Don’t miss them.

Are You Ready For Something Different?

Asian Style Braised Pork Belly
Try this dish. It is very delicious, tender and fabulous. Chilled Beaujolais is delicious with it and I also think a nice, crisp Gewurztraminer would be a natural.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! IT’S TIME TO GIVE THANKS AND ENJOY FOOD AND WINE!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. It is one of my favorite days of the year. Traditionally, it was a time to give thanks for the harvest. Today the Thanksgiving holiday is a time to give thanks and appreciation for all the things with which we are blessed. For my family, and many others, it has also been a time to get together and celebrate with a Thanksgiving feast.

More 2009 Beaujolais

As I have been saying, 2009 is a superb year for Beaujolais. Is it the vintage of the century? Who knows and who cares? The point is that the wines are absolutely delicious. They have been arriving for the last few months and more will be arriving soon. Don’t miss them! Here are notes on some recent arrivals. The quality across the range of wines is outstanding and nearly all are Best Buys with prices from $12 to $25. These are wines you can drink now (remember Thanksgiving is not far off and Beaujolais is one of my favorite wines to serve with Thanksgiving turkey). But, you should also lay some away for the future. You’ll be glad you did.
