THANKSGIVING 2021

Yes it is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is almost here again. But that is always a good thing! Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. It is a time to give thanks for all our blessings and be with family and friends and enjoy great food and wine. My wife Laurie and I have prepared a Thanksgiving meal for our family since we were first  married and moved into our first house which was over 40 years ago. Isn’t it amazing how time flies when you are having fun? And since 2000 we have lived here in Montecito, CA where we have a lot more room. But one thing has not changed – our Thanksgiving meal has always included the same foods – appetizers, roast turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade corn bread dressing, biscuits (from a refrigerated cannister and baked in the oven) cranberry sauce with orange zest (from Trader Joes), and pumpkin and apple pies (from Costco) with whipped cream for dessert (click here to read an earlier article that includes the menu with recipes that may give you some ideas for your Thanksgiving).

This year the menu will be essentially the same. One difference will be the turkey. We were unable to get small turkeys to put on the rotisserie so we are cooking 2 medium size turkeys in the oven. For wine I will serve Champagne to start and with the main course I will have a choice of 2 different 2020 Rosés, a 2019 Cru Beaujolais, and 2 different 2019 Red Burgundies. I will have a brief article on 2019 Red Burgundies out soon, but what I can say is that the 2019s are the most delicious young Red Burgundies I have ever tasted! And although they certainly will age gracefully for many years into the future they are absolutely delicious and irresistible now!

Happy Thanksgiving 2021 with remembrances of long ago!
