As crazy as it sounds this actually happened. It was reported in a column by wine writer Dennis Schaefer in our local newspaper, The Santa Barbara News Press, On October 7, 2010. It seems that wine critic Robert Parker comes to our area once a year to taste local wines.
Over the years, I’ve participated in thousands of wine tastings. I have read about hundreds or thousands more. But there is one that stands out above all the others. It is, without question, the wine tasting of the millennium. The basic idea was to taste the highest scoring wines of all time in one tasting.

We’re often asked about this wine or that, but occasionally we’re asked why the name “Underground”? Are we terrorists? Perhaps a reincarnation of the Weathermen? Are our foreign correspondents disciples of Che Guevara? No. Nary a machine gun or shoulder holster anywhere. Our interest is strictly fine wine—drinking it and reporting on its merits as objectively as humanly possible.
