From the very early days, The Underground Wineletter has been a big fan of Champagne with a very large number of Champagne articles written over nearly four decades (click here to read the Retrospective Review of our first article on Champagne from December 1979). And, I have always said that at our house every day is a Champagne day. However, for most people, New Year’s Eve is the time when the corks really start popping. But each year there is yet another special day to enjoy Champagne. This year it is Friday October 21 which is officially designated CHAMPAGNE DAY 2016.
So there you go. If you were waiting for an excuse to pop the cork on a bottle of Champagne now you have it. Cheers!

Happy Champagne Day to you and Laurie!
I celebrated early this year… I went to a champagne tasting event hosted by Henriot last night and had a chance to chat with the cellar master. I asked him what his favorite was and he mentioned Peters Pierre.
I searched the Underground and found a great article on Grower champagne!
There’s amazing content in the site that continues to help support my learning process, we appreciate you!

Thanks Matt.
We are ready every night for our Champagne celebration including tonight!
I too am a big fan of Pierre Peters and have many different vintages in my cellar. I especially like the Les Chétillons. Also, Alain Robert and, of course, Launois which is one of our “house” Champagnes. Then there is the great Clos de Mesnil from Krug as well as Salon. We just had a bottle of 90 Alain Robert “Rare”. What a great Champagne. The wines from Le Mesnil are amazing.
Glad you are making progress. It’s a lot of fun and there are lots of wines out there to try. At The Underground we continue to try to drink what we have while always being on the look out for something new.
In Vino Veritas,
John
